Teachers often focus on teaching the subject matter but I believe it is important to focus on teaching the student! I believe that learning should be meaningful to the students and be tailored to each group or class. I strive to educate youth beyond class material by explaining the purpose of what we are learning and providing choice in what they are learning. Doing so provides students with the opportunity to take responsibility for their own learning.
As a teacher I want to create a positive learning environment for my students where they can grown and develop safely. I also believe that the key to teaching is building relationships with and getting to know your students. By doing so I hope to inspire creativity and individuality among my students.
Within my classroom setting I also want to develop and innovative and supportive atmosphere where students are motivated to learn, take risks and are not afraid to fail. As a teacher I strive to continue and grow my passion for learning after graduation by staying as relevant and up-to-date with what’s going on in the world and in my field of studies. I also expect the same growth and persistence from my students, as I often will present ideas and new tools/information that are introduced by students. I believe this helps create lifelong learners among our students who strive to learn about more then what is taught in a textbook.
Technology has become a huge part of teaching in today’s society and I believe, as a teacher it is important staying up to date with the changes in technology, as it is one of the best tools to help provide students with authentic learning opportunities. I believe when technology is introduced to students it should be as something they can continue using through their lives and educational journey.
It seems like a teacher’s focus is mainly on ones self and the students but I believe it is just as important focus on working with collogues. Too often then not I have felt teaching as a competition but I believe it is more of a journey and it is important to work with other by sharing and collaborating, as this is key for becoming a great teacher. We should be working as a team to bounce ideas from one another and develop the best learning environment for our students!
I believe a teacher should be innovative, passionate, willing to grow and learn, caring, trustworthy, collaborative, and supportive!
